Description |
Stems erect, usually with a late branch from the scale leaf axil. Leaves (once) two to four times ternate with entirre or deeply cleft leaflets; ultimate lobes variable, usually rather narrow, but sometimes very broad, glaucous below. Racemes rather dense, somewhat elongating in fruit; flowers usually nodding. Bracts usually longer than broad, apically more or less deeply divided into usually acute lobes, rarely entire. Pedicels slender, 5-15 mm, more or less recurved in fruit. Corolla variable in colour; outer petals broadly winged and usually emarginate at apex, often with a shallowly dentate margin; lower petal with or without a basal pouch; inner petals pale, only internally blotched with dark reddish purple at apex, and with rather narrow dorsal crests that do not overtop the apex. Spur straight or apically recurved, the nectary tapering to a long slender tail, reaching halfway through the spur or more. Style usually long, often geniculate at base. Capsule broadly lanceolate to elliptic, dorsiventrally flattened, pendent. |
