Bulb spherical to ovoid, 2-2.8 × 1.5-2.5 cm. Sheath 4.5-7 × 0.5-0.7 cm. Vernation supervolute. Leaves linear to narrowly oblanceolate (broader in the middle to upper third), narrowed at the base, (7-)11-35(-50) × (1-)1.5-2.5(-3) cm, during and after flowering developing in length and width, recurving at maturity; midrib conspicuous to inconspicuous; margins flat to slightly undulate; apex obtuse to obtuse-acute, often with a short point at the tip, flat to very slightly hooded; surface smooth, sometimes with two (rarely four) longitudinal folds (leaves bent slightly upwards or slightly downwards); upper and lower surfaces the same colour, medium- to darkish green, often matt (very slightly glaucescent), although the lower surface often shiny. Scape 6-20 cm long, green. Pedicel 16-26 mm long. Outer perianth segments narrowly obovate to elliptic, 18-30(-32) × 11-16 mm, slightly unguiculate. Inner perianth segments obovate to obtriangular, 10-14 × 5-8 mm, each segment with a sinus and a large apical, U-shaped green mark, covering half to two thirds of the segment; inner face of each segment with a faint green mark similar to the mark on the outer face. Anthers tapering to a long point. Capsule spherical, 10-18 mm in diameter. Seeds brown, c. 5 mm long. Flowering time January to April in nature; February to March in cultivation. Outer perianth segment convex, oblong-elliptic, inner segment flat, not flared at apex, narrowly obovate, each with green patch at apex, leaves strap-shaped to narrowly oblanceolate, bright or deep green. |
