Bulb ovoid, 1-1.5 cm diam.; outer tunics pale brown, membranous or subcoriaceous; bulblets apparently absent. Stem 15-50 cm, glabrus. Leaves 2-4, shorter than the inflorescence, sheatihing the lower fifth to third of the stem, usually still green at flowering time, linear-lanceolate, tapering to a long-acuminate apex, flat or shallowly canaliculate, non-fistulose, keeled, 1-6 mm wide, minutely denticulate on the margin; sheaths glabrous. Spatha 1- or 2-valved, up to 3 cm long, membranous or subcoriaceous, ovate at the base, tapering to a short beak, ofthen persisting until anthesis. Umbel hemispherical, (20)2.5-5(-6) cm diam., dense. Pedicels up to 2 cm long, smooth; bracteloles present, membranous, 3-5 mm long, dissected at the apex. Perianth campanulate; segments pale purplish-pink with a darker mid-vein, 6-9 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate, slightly papillose-scabrid on the keel. Stamens included; filaments ciliate near the base, the outer ones simple, narrowly triangular, the inner ones with the anther-bearing cusp a fifth to a quarter as long as the expanded undivided basal part and a quarter to half as long as the lateral cusps; lateral cusps included; anthers yellow. Style included. Capsule ovoid-globose, about 4 mm long; seeds black, about 3 mm long. Flowering time May-June. |
