Description |
Bulb spherical, 2.2-2.7 × 2.2-2.6 cm. Sheath 5-5.6 × 0.5-0.6 cm. Vernation applanate. Leaves linear to very narrowly oblanceolate (slightly broader in the middle to upper third), (5-)8-20(-24) × (0.6-)0.8-1.6(-1.8) cm, during and after flowering developing slightly in length and in width, semi-erect to recurving or prostrate at maturity; midrib conspicuous; margins flat or subrevolute, particularly near the base of the leaf; apex acute to acute-obtuse, flat to very slightly hooded; surfaces smooth; upper and lower surfaces quite different in colour, upper surface medium- to darkish green, approaching glaucescent, matt, lower surface medium-green, distinctly shiny. Scape (8-)15-23 cm long, green. Pedicel 15-24 mm long. Outer perianth segments obovate to elliptic, 25-29 × 15-17 mm, slightly unguiculate. Inner perianth segments obovate to obtriangular, 11-15 × 7-8 mm, each segment with a sinus and an apical V-shaped green mark, usually broadest at the tips (enlarged in the lobes, either side of the sinus), which can be divided into two small, angular, eye-like marks (either side of the sinus), sometimes with two eye-like marks at the base; inner face of each segment with a faint green mark covering the entire segment. Anthers tapering to a long point. Capsule ellipsoid to spherical, 9-19 mm in diameter. Seeds not seen. Flowering time March in nature; January to February in cultivation. |
