| Description |
The unscented flowers of this hybrid reach a height of 70-75 mm, with a diameter of 50 mm, and have the typical gourd-like shape (much admired by Bowles) which gives rise to a waisted profile when closed, and a pleasingly rotund outline when expanded in warm sunshine. The 28 × 11 mm outer segments have a pale primrose (11C) ground colour, externally overlaid with fine violet streaks (86D) which become more feathered towards the centre. The inner segments are, against the usual run, more ample (28 × 13 mm) but are slightly darker in tone on both surfaces. The outer surfaces of both sets of segments are very shiny. The perianth tube is silvery with violet streaks, these less prominent towards the base. The style is orange-red and three-branched with papillose tips. The anthers are golden yellow with a paler connective and filament. The bract and bracteole are silvery and papery. At anthesis the foliage, comprising up to five narrow, dark green leaves with a fine line, is equal to, or just exceeds, the flowers. |
